In Lefebvre’ s reflections on the displacement of centrality, this article aims to show how Quito’s urban planning, beyond political orientations, has contributed to a displacement not only of centrality but also, following this, the increase in land valuation. It begins then by outlining the theoretical perspective on centrality, periphery and uneven spatial development. Then a brief historical review of the urban planning plans of the capital is made and it is contextualized with the respective social, economic and political moments. Here, the instrumentalization of land valuation throughout the city is also reviewed and its relationship with existing urban centralities is analyzed. Finally, a reflection on the relationship between planning and land valuation in the displacement of centrality is outlined.
